Our Governance

The congregation-elected Board of Trustees is ultimately responsible for governance by creating policy and long-term strategy. This is accomplished by the Board or Committees of the Board, which often include non-elected volunteers. Meetings are generally held once a month and meeting minutes are published.

In response to important issues of our day, the congregation will, from time to time, adopt by a vote of the membership, resolutions stating our position. Click HERE for resolutions of this congregation.

Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship’s organizational structure is made up of five major Councils (teams):

  • Administration

  • Ministry

  • Community Within BUF

  • Community Beyond BUF

  • Growth and Learning

Led by the Minister and a representative from the Board, representatives from each of the Councils form our Operations Team. This team is responsible for carrying out the intentions of the Board. See the organizational chart below for more detail on each Operations Team Council.

Board of Trustees

Members of the Board of Trustees are elected each year at the Annual Congregational Meeting in May. Trustees are elected to three-year terms. Trustees are limited to two consecutive terms. The Board elects its own officers. Meetings of the Board of Trustees are generally held once a month and meeting minutes are published. Minutes can be requested from the BUF office.
